Advantage comparison between fiber laser cutting machine and CO2 laser cutting machine
1. Contrast from the structure of the laser device
Carbon Dioxide laser cutting technology, carbon dioxide gas is the generation of laser beam medium. Fiber lasers, however, operate through diodes and fiber optic cables. The fiber laser system pumps a laser beam through multiple diodes and then transmits it through a flexible fiber cable to the laser cutting head, rather than through a mirror. This has many advantages, starting with the size of the cutting bed. In gas laser technology, the reflector must be set within a certain distance, and unlike it, fiber laser technology has no limits. And even fiber lasers can be mounted next to the plasma cutting of the plasma cutting bed, an option not available for CO2 laser cutting. Similarly, the ability of the fiber to bend makes the system more compact when compared to a gas cutting system of the same power.
2. Compare the conversion efficiency of electricity to light
The most important and significant advantage of fiber-optic cutting technology should be its energy efficiency. With Fiber Laser solid-state digital module, single design, fiber laser cutting system has higher than Carbon Dioxide laser cutting electro-optical conversion efficiency. For each power supply unit of the CO2 cutting system, the actual general utilization rate is about 8% to 10% . And for fiber laser cutting system, users can expect higher power efficiency, about 25% to 30% . In other words, the overall energy consumption of the fiber-optic cutting system is about 3 to 5 times less than that of the CO2 cutting system, resulting in an increase in energy efficiency to over 86 per cent.
3. Contrast from the cut
Fiber lasers feature short wavelengths, which improve the absorption of light beams by cutting materials, and enable cutting of materials such as brass and copper as well as non-conductive materials. A more focused beam produces a smaller focus and a deeper depth of focus, allowing the fiber laser to cut thinner materials faster and more efficiently into medium-thickness ones. When cutting materials up to 6mm thick, the cutting speed of the 1.5 kw fiber laser cutting system is equivalent to that of the 3kW CO2 laser cutting system. Because the operating cost of fiber cutting is lower than the cost of ordinary CO2 cutting system, so this can be understood as output increased and commercial cost reduction.
4. Compare maintenance costs
In terms of machine maintenance, fiber laser cutting is more environment-friendly and convenient, the CO2 laser system needs regular maintenance, the reflector needs maintenance and calibration, and the resonator needs regular maintenance. On the other hand, fiber laser cutting solutions require almost no maintenance. Carbon Dioxide laser cutting system needs carbon dioxide as laser gas, because of the purity of carbon dioxide gas, the cavity will be contaminated, need to clean up regularly. That would cost at least $20,000 a year for a system with several kilowatts of CO2. In addition, many carbon dioxide cutting needs high-speed axial flow turbine delivery laser gas, and the need for turbine maintenance and renovation.
